Anies, Agus not ready to challenge Ahok in election, analyst says

BINTANGNEWS.com – With a lack of detailed programs to handle the capital's problems, Jakarta gubernatorial hopefuls Anies Baswedan and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono seem unprepared to challenge Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama in the 2017 elections.
Anies and Agus had only laid out normative solutions for city woes such as flooding and traffic, University of Indonesia communications expert Ade Armando said on Friday. It was in contrast to incumbent Ahok, who always states his detailed plans on how to mitigate flooding and traffic congestion.
"Anies and Agus were suddenly appointed as candidates. They have not prepared the programs to challenge Ahok," Ade said during a discussion.
Agus in particular, who had just risen onto the political scene after leaving his military career, has not revealed too many details of his programs to the public. Ade said that it was because he had not prepared his programs properly.
He predicted that Ahok would still be a strong contender and that voters would likely vote for him in the elections scheduled to take place in February next year.
In addition to Ahok, the election's candidates are former education and culture minister Anies, paired with businessman-turned-politician Sandiaga Uno, and Agus, the eldest son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, paired with seasoned city bureaucrat Sylviana Murni.***
