Nation’s interests first priority, says Probowo in meet with Jokowi

BINTANGNEWS.com – Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto said he felt honored by the visit of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to his house in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Monday.
“Of course, I feel honored by his visit. I think it shows our great national culture that people with sharp differences can still come together,” said Prabowo after meeting with Jokowi as reported by kompas.com.
Both Prabowo and Jokowi did not disclose what they discussed in the closed door meeting, but many speculated that they discussed the planned massive demonstration on Nov. 4 by a number of Islamic organizations against Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama.
Prabowo said during the meeting, he told Jokowi that the Gerindra Party often criticized Jokowi and his ministers because of its function as opposition, but he guaranteed that “the interest of the state is first priority”.
“Since the beginning, I believe that as a patriot, he [Jokowi] wants to do his best for the nation. I am also a patriot and I also want the best for the nation. That is why we met,” said Prabowo, who ran in the 2014 presidential election.
Meanwhile, Jokowi said his visit to Prabowo’s house was to fulfill the promise he made when he met with Prabowo at the latter’s house in Kebayoran, South Jakarta, on Oct. 17, 2014, soon after Jokowi was elected as head of state.
“At that time, I promised pak Prabowo in Kebayoran that I would go to Hambalang. Today, I fulfill my promise,” said Jokowi.
After their meeting, Prabowo invited Jokowi to ride one of his horses. Both dignitaries wore cowboy caps, while on horseback.
Commenting on the planned protest, Prabowo called for a peaceful rally. “We have to keep alert for elements that want to break apart the nation,” Prabowo added.***
