Police ready to provide 'maximum' protection for KPK: Chief

BINTANGNEWS.com – National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian announced on Wednesday that his institution was ready to provide security for both Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leaders and investigators.
“I have communicated with the KPK chairman [Agus Rahardjo] regarding this matter. But we will leave it to the commission’s leaders. In principle, we will help provide maximum security [for the KPK],” Tito said after inaugurating the Makassar Police’s command center in South Sulawesi on Wednesday.
KPK investigator Novel Baswedan suffered burns to his face after two unidentified persons on a motorcycle threw acid on him early Tuesday morning. The attack occurred as he was walking home from attending morning prayers at a nearby mosque in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
Novel has been flown to Singapore to receive treatment for injuries sustained to his face and left eye.
Tito said that a team comprising officers from the Jakarta Police, the North Jakarta Police and the National Police has been assigned to investigate the incident.
The joint task force has searched the crime scene and questioned witnesses, and is currently working on possible motives for the assault.
“I will not reveal the result of their work due to the sensitive nature of the case,” Tito said, adding that the police have deployed officers to guard both Novel and his residence.***
